About

Hello!

I’m Stefanie, and I help people use data to communicate, educate, and bring communities together.

As a creative director, artist, and author I aim to push the boundaries of data communication, turning data into memorable, participatory ‘data experiences’ that captivate people of all ages, spark conversations and help build deeper understanding and connections.

From art installations to agency collaborations, I create data-driven work that is intuitive, human-scaled and accessible, celebrating the humanity found within every dataset.

As a creative consultant, I work with R&D teams, design agencies, and corporate clients, leading creative direction and early-stage concept ideation for data-driven products of the future, or by creating data-driven artwork for campaigns.

I also speak about data, design, and creativity at conferences and corporate events, inspiring audiences to see data differently and explore more human-centred approaches to visualisation.

Additionally, I lead hands-on workshops that use basic drawing materials to build participants’ confidence in designing custom data visualisations. By focusing on core design principles over tech tools, these workshops are accessible and transformative for all skill levels – from newcomers to seasoned data professionals.

I’ve led workshops for leading organisations across tech, education, government, and design, helping teams move beyond basic charts to develop creative, impactful data visualisations.

My work has been featured at major galleries worldwide including MoMA, the Storefront for Art and Architecture (New York), the Centre Pompidou (Paris), ArtScience Museum (Singapore), the V&A, the Design Museum (‘Designs of the Year 2016’), the Wellcome Collection, the Science Museum, The Southbank Centre, and Somerset House (London), Bletchley Park, and is also in the permanent collection of MoMA.

I’m also the co-author (with Miriam Quick) of the award-winning book, I am a book. I am a portal to the universe., an illustrated book visualising wondrous data from the universe on a 1:1 scale. It was named one of the Financial Times’ Best Books of 2020 and winner of the Royal Society’s Young People’s Book Prize 2021.
